Bass Southwest was inspired and launched with the help, expertise, and guidance of our friends at Fodera Guitars and Epifani Custom Sound. In the early days, both companies provided the instruments and equipment that helped get Bass Southwest off the ground. From the very beginning, we were fortunate to be surrounded by builders who shared the same passion for craftsmanship and tone that we did.
Bass Southwest began in Southern California, and our name reflects those roots. As the shop grew, we started serving bass players not just locally, but around the world. In 2000, Bass Southwest relocated to North Carolina, where we continue to operate today. While the location changed, the name — and our commitment to expert service — remained the same. After more than two decades of working with bass players worldwide, Bass Southwest has built a reputation based on trust, experience, and relationships.
Our Philosophy
At Bass Southwest, our philosophy is simple:
great basses come from great builders, thoughtful choices, and personal guidance.
We have always chosen to work with the world’s best luthiers — builders who truly care about the instruments they create and stand behind their craft. We believe a bass should be more than a collection of parts. It should feel right in your hands, inspire you to play, and reflect the personality of both the player and the builder.
When it comes to custom instruments, we love working closely with our customers to educate and guide them through the process of creating their dream bass. From proper wood selection to electronics and every detail in between, we help bring together the right combination to produce the best sounding and most inspiring instrument possible.
Our goal is to create a true partnership between the player and the luthier — a collaboration that results in something special.
Service That Lasts
Our involvement doesn’t end when a bass is finished. We offer support throughout the entire process and long after the instrument is completed. Over the years, this approach has led to many long-lasting friendships with players and builders alike.
In addition to custom instruments, Bass Southwest also specializes in used and vintage basses, offering expert advice to help players find unique and exceptional pieces with history and character.
More Than a Shop
Bass Southwest is passionate about helping players obtain their dream bass — but just as important to us is building lasting relationships. We value the friendships that grow out of the bass-building and buying process, and we are always striving to form new relationships with luthiers and players around the world.
Whether you’re searching for a one-of-a-kind custom instrument, a special vintage piece, or simply honest guidance from someone who’s been around basses for decades, Bass Southwest is here to help.
