Otto Bass Design

Bass Southwest is happy to announce it’s collaboration with Otto Bass Design.

Please brief Bio on Otto Bass Design.

Osman Alkan who is also known as “Otto” was born in 1978 and discovered his passion for music early on. He picked up the bass guitar at the age of 13 and built his first bass at 15 using household items.

By the time he was 17, he had started touring and has continued to work as a professional bass player ever since.

In 1998, he began designing guitars and consulting for local luthiers and gained experience crafting over 500 electric bass guitars in six different workshops, experimenting with all kinds of wood combinations hardware, pickups, and electronics.

Studied Architecture major and discovered new, unique techniques on wood working and instrument making with expanded knowledge on acoustics.

For over a decade, he’d been the dealer of the US MTD line, playing nearly 200 of Mike Tobias’s builds and essentially memorizing the “unwritten book” of Michael Tobias by heart.

In 2017, he decided to open his own woodshop.

In 2021, Otto launched Otto Bass Design.

Having personally owned more than 300 different basses and played instruments from every major builder, he began producing five basses a month with a year-long backlog.

As of 2026, Otto Basses has reached its final form.

Otto has no intention of changing any components or design further and is focused purely on maintaining perfection. No more expansion—just a dedication to excellence from here on out.

Spector Like New Euro Series XL5

The Euro5 LT comes loaded with a set of custom-wound Bartolini humbuckers crafted exclusively for Spector. These dual-coil pickups deliver unmatched note articulation and balance. The bridge pickup yields a higher output and resonant peak for enhanced high-end response, while the neck pickup is wound slightly lower to better complement the bridge pickup. The wide range of tones that these pickups exhibit is well-suited for any playing style. And for powerful tone-shaping capabilities, the Euro5 LT features a Darkglass active preamp and tone circuit.
The bass that fits like a glove
Spector (with the help of Ned Steinberger) developed the contoured NS body design in 1977, prioritizing the player’s comfort for possibly the first time in the history of the bass guitar design. And players soon took note, with iconic bassists such as Garry Tallent, Ian Hill, Rudy Sarzo, and countless others taking to the stage with Spector basses. This iconic body style balances well and feels supremely comfortable against your body and arm. And thanks to the Euro5 LT’s carefully tuned weight relief, you’ll enjoy a lighter instrument without making any sonic sacrifices.
Spector’s Euro Series continues a decades-long tradition of innovation
If you’ve always craved a Spector NS bass, you’ll dig the Euro Series. These basses are essentially production versions of those coveted instruments, with the same sleek carved bodies as their US-made cousins. Euro Series basses were handcrafted in the Czech Republic using top-shelf tonewoods from the United States and Europe — you’ll love the natural resonance and tone of these instruments. What’s more, you get graphite-reinforced truss rods, premium pickups, and Spector’s acclaimed TonePump active preamp. The Euro Series continues Stuart Spector’s decades-long tradition of innovation.
